Allenstown – Richard G. Merrill, Sr., 92, of Allenstown, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1933, in Concord, son of the late Kenneth W. Merrill and Volda I. (Provenchia) Quinn. Richard attended the local schools and went on to proudly serve his country for over 28 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Gulf war. For many years Richard worked as a school bus driver for the Concord School District before his retirement. When not at work, Richard enjoyed building things, shelves, model airplanes and even with matches. He loved going camping, fishing, golfing and riding his motorcycle in his younger years. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Knapp and four siblings, Beverly Revoir, Marion Hammond, Kenneth W. Merrill and Thurlow Merrill. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Cournoyer) Merrill of Allenstown, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, children, Richard Merrill, Jr. and his wife Deborah, Brian Merrill and his wife Laura and Valerie Merrill, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 4PM-6PM at the Roan Family Funeral Home, 167 Main Street, Pembroke. Interment will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 10AM with military honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the DAV-Disabled American Veterans, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
